Program Description<\/span>
\nThe Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Secondary Educators are intensive post-graduate level<\/span>
\nacademic programs whose purpose is to provide foreign secondary school educators and<\/span>
\nadministrators the opportunity to deepen their understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and<\/span>
\ninstitutions. The ultimate goal of the Institutes is to strengthen curricula and to enhance the quality<\/span>
\nof teaching about the United States in secondary schools and other academic institutions abroad.<\/span>
\nEach Institute will have approximately 20 participants and will be conducted by various colleges,<\/span>
\nuniversities, and academic institutions throughout the United States beginning in or after June 2022.<\/span>
\nStudy of the U.S. Institutes for Secondary Educators will take place at various academic institutions<\/span>
\nthroughout the United States over the course of five weeks beginning in June 2022. Each Institute<\/span>
\nincludes a four-week academic residency component and a one-week integrated study tour to<\/span>
\nanother region of the United States.<\/span>
\nThe program will provide three multinational groups of 20 experienced secondary school educators<\/span>
\n(including teachers, administrators, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers,<\/span>
\nMinistry of Education officials, and others) with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, education,<\/span>
\nand culture \u2013 past and present. The focus of the Institutes will be on providing content and materials<\/span>
\nfor participants to develop high school level curricula about the United States. Two of the Institutes<\/span>
\nare tailored for secondary school teachers; please note that the Institutes for Teachers focus on<\/span>
\ncontent and materials about the United States rather than teaching methods and pedagogy. The<\/span>
\nthird Institute is tailored for experienced administrators including teacher trainers, curriculum<\/span>
\ndevelopers, textbook writers, Ministry of Education officials, and others.<\/span>
\nProgram Model: The Institutes will be conducted as traditional in-person programs at U.S. host<\/span>
\ninstitutions. Should health, safety, and travel conditions continue to pose significant challenges, the<\/span><\/h3>\n

programs will pivot to a modified virtual format. The virtual program will consist of a minimum of<\/span>
\n36 hours of required programming and will be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous<\/span>
\nlearning. The virtual programming will include lectures, small group discussions, videos, readings,<\/span>
\npanels, site visits, assignments, and individual and group activities. Participants are required to fully<\/span>
\nparticipate in the entire virtual program from their home country. Participants must complete the<\/span>
\nvirtual program in order to continue the in-person program in the United States, if implemented,<\/span>
\ncontingent upon health, safety, and travel conditions.<\/span>
\nTechnology Requirements: Should the program need to pivot to a virtual format, participants<\/span>
\nwould need access to a computer and a stable internet connection.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Eligibility Criteria<\/span>
\nCandidates should be mid-career, typically between the ages of 30-50, highly motivated1
\nand experienced secondary school teachers and administrators
\nIdeal candidates are individuals who are seeking to introduce or enhance aspects of U.S
\nstudies into their curricula or to offer specialized seminars\/workshops for education
\nprofessionals in U.S. studies or related fields
\nIdeal candidates will have little or no prior experience in the United States
\nCandidates must demonstrate English language fluency and provide sufficient proof of
\ntheir English proficiency levels<\/h3>\n
